I want to say a thing about people who believe themselves to be good but don’t believe in programs that actually help people, “because I’ll help when asked I show I care” :

If you only move to help when someone asks you personally, you’re enjoying the power dynamic, not the act of helping.

I deeply despise Conservatives who do this dance. You know, the “but what if a random person abuses the donation though”, “but there are parasites”, “but why can’t they just get a job” can’t trust programs but assure folks they know they’ll help IF and maybe when (w lots of ‘advice’) they ask.

  1. I really need these people to wake up to their (likely unconscious) power tripping when they do this.

I make it a personal note that when someone talks to me this way - “I’ll donate if you ask but I don’t believe in social programs” to never ask them for shit, bc it’s either strings or ego in there
