My dad believed he had to have a mortgage to reduce his income tax. So he paid way more over the course of his life to greedy bankers than he would've paid in taxes. He died with 2 mortgages & not much equity at all.

Here in Australia I believe we pay 1.5% of our wages towards our Medicare levy. From memory the first $18,000 we earn we don't pay anything. As I'm now on a Disability Pension I may be slightly wrong it may have been tweaked. My stroke prevention measures cost $7 per script
