What matters pragmatically is that there is enough authoritarianist actions and theories of change in flux for people to act accordingly. That is a social fact. Doesn’t have to be intellectually pure to be real.

  1. I also think more people need to take into account how if your side wins by breaking things/creating chaos and entropy, you don’t always need to “succeed” at your stated goal to win.

  2. Maria Ressa and other journalists cited this issue with Duterte in the Philippines. So much of his power came from having just enough power to get people to act on his behalf. It didn’t require him to go “full Marcos”. And it worked
