  1. it was terrorism (not genocide), Hamas doesn't have the resources or capabilities to commit genocide (unlike Israel/Netanyahu et al who have wanted Gaza and the W Bank to be part of Israel for a long time

  2. I don’t think any serious person defends the attack by Hamas, nor do they use the accusation of genocide against Israel. Both are to blame for their abominable actions.

  3. By your definition israel is also commiting genocide. This all could’ve easily been avoided if israel wasn’t actively expansionist and if they didn’t support Hamas to undermine secular Palestinian groups

  4. Actus reus: Mass killings, sexual violence, abductions, deliberate targeting of Jews as Jews.

Intent: Hamas’ charter calls for Israel’s annihilation. Leaders repeatedly vow to kill Jews “everywhere.”

Hamas then launched a propaganda shield, accusing Israel of “genocide” to hide its own. This inversion exploits Jewish history, manipulates public opinion, and shields perpetrators from justice.Genocide recognition matters. It means accountability for Hamas and its backers, and it protects the meaning of the word from being twisted into a weapon.
