What Trump/Texas just did will lead to the death of representative democracy. They’ve opened the door to gerrymandering every 2yrs, b4 any election. And when that happens, Americans will no longer believe their representation is legitimate. And representative democracy will die.

Yup

The only way out of this is to eliminate Party registration. The whole system is broken unless laws are changed.
-
The people will have the opportunity in the same election to throw out those legislators that they believe played unfairly, if they are so inclined.

Why does it feel like we are losing?
-
I certainly understand (and approve of) Newsom and other blue state governors' responding to this in kind, but it creates a race to the bottom and makes a mockery of the voting process. But Rs don't want voters empowered, they want authoritarian control.

That’s the plan - to destroy representative democracy.
Trump has not put all that gaudy gold in the White House to turn it into his Mar a lago north palace for the next President to enjoy. He intends to stay.

Why do republicans hate democracy and use the powers of the federal government to crush states rights?
They are not the party of my grandfather. They have become a cult whose leader is a tyrant.
-
-
Isn’t that his plan? Destroy democracy one bite at a time.. he longs to be a ruler.. just like his pal Vlad..
-
Unless we beat them this time. I know this involves tremendous trust. But if we beat em, we can pass a federal law outlining when and how redistricting occurs. Cause after this??? We need to pass a TON of democracy forward good governance laws anyway.
-
We can do like the republikkklans did. Run as one party, then switch parties
-
Trump single-handedly destroyed our country. Sure, he has backers, but he drives all of the BS. The fight and resistance needs to grow even stronger and wider. Imagine what MAGA would do if Obama or Harris did 10% of what they're doing? Dems need to match that anger and rise up!

got any text messages from friends in Texas quietly disagreeing with this while not having the guts to stand up to it?
-
There is a way out of it, but it's not easy. In order to gerrymander Texas to that point, they have to take serious risks, leaving red districts very lean. Concerted efforts need to be made to flip those lean districts. It could even cause a blatant backfiring of the effort.
-
Uh... I haven't believed my representation has been legitimate since the late 20th century.
-
The one thing they haven’t calculated is how utterly unpopular republicans will be by 2026. I’m not sure all of the gerrymandering in the world will save them.
-
What good is democracy anyway when one of only two partys is fascist and will remove it the second it can? Leaves a one party system either way. And that's never a democracy.
-
New Texas districts are necessary because so many of the previous residents have been deported.
-
The ultimate answer is the death of the Republican Party. Vote ALL Republican incumbents out. They do not represent the people anymore.
-
Everything Trump touches dies

The Electoral College has to GO!!!
-
Good people need to get back in office. And legislate!
-
Mission accomplished.
-
Likely not an overstatement.
-
Get rid of the electoral college.
-
That’s his plan.
-
Who knew that Republicans hate democracy so desperately?
-
Gop kicked that door down awhile back. Undermining process and faith in system is their goal.
-
One of their goals is to get us to give up
-
Hopefully it will get rid of the cult!🤔

The US needs something like Elections Canada, which is the independent, non-partisan agency responsible for conducting federal elections and referendums. They determine districts and boundaries, based on information from Statistics Canada. While I'm sure it's not perfect, it has many safeguards.
