The paywall complaint is just people who think everything they want and like should be free. Meanwhile, the people who want to buy single stories or follow one writer are griping without realizing how fast the cost of a la carte reading would pile up and outweigh a subscription.
100%, I totally get it. Real Journalism is hard. And often not very rewarding monetarily. A paywall gives them that.
But moi, on a fixed retirement income with a mortgage & constantly rising costs,
I'd love a "Cribs Notes" type summary if I can't afford the subscription for a critical news story.
