Disney killed off many of its union artist jobs and participated eagerly in both the red and pink scares of the 1940s and 50s, getting rid of gay and leftist animators and performers as well as getting rid of whistleblowers and those advocating for better rights.

And more ethical artist collectives or unions could have formed and protected those same artists.
Disney as a corporation gives zero shits about gay people or any type of artistic expression, it was a cold financial decision that gay people had money to part with and they wanted that money.
Now that it is no longer profitable to be in favor of gay rights and put gay people into prominent positions they will do all they can to try and keep those same gay artists and performers exploited as cheap labor even as they outwardly back track on their stances with regard to the LGBTQ community
