There is a person in my professional world who I have seen post both:
"People are so dumb for being afraid of sharks because of obviously-wrong fearmongering media coverage"
and
"Of course I'm afraid of immigrants, don't you see how scary this media coverage is?"

I work with people that don't even believe that ICE is raiding and kidnapping people. It's scary.
Anyone who has ever participated in something that was noticed in the media knows how inaccurate the reporting was. And yet we take for granted that it must be right when it's about anybody else.

Saying the quiet part out loud: their problem has always been "immigrants," not "illegal immigrants." Racism and xenophobia cloaked as law and order.
