It does turn off the classification of emails sadly, a function that have nothing to do with AI & scrapping.

The instructions I have read so far do not apply to Android app if you have multiple accounts.
You have to go, not into general settings, but into the individual account first, then general settings.

How do you turn it off on mobile
Turning it off makes Gmail noticeably worse due to junk and ads. Will be looking for a new email provider.

to be fair I don't think you can even by doing this. once you update your Android system, you have Gemini which can't be taken off.

Sure would be a shame if hundreds of thousands of users created GMail accounts and then started filling them with AI slop. That would be awful.
I turned off "smart" features and now it refuses to categorize my e-mails so it's throwing "NovaCat has started streaming on twitch!" And "Wal-Mart has a new flyer!" In with important stuff.
Fuckin' bullshit, trying to inconvenience me into letting them scrape.
Woooow and they force you to use it if you want to keep your mail sorted in tabs, i hate this timeline where tech is just getting more annoying and inconvenient and doesn't make your life easier at all
