"I miss when the computer was only in one room."

Go buy a desktop then? Hell like, Mini-PCs are incredibly cheap these days too.

Or get a docking station for your laptop, a monitor, and just leave it plugged in?

When I was a kit I envisioned a future where my phone was the ultimate computing environment I'd carry with me.

Libraries would have docking stations with a keyboard and monitor that you'd just drop you phone into and resume your work in a full desktop environment. No need for Cloud anything.

  1. Offices and makerspaces would have docking stations with additional hardware on them for more intensive work. Like faster CPUs, more RAM, external GPUs, etc. The OS would scale dynamically in response to the hardware it had available.

  2. This is what I wanted the future to be. Linux phone You can plop into a tablet for a bigger screen, laptop for a screen and keyboard, or a full desktop with higher powered gpu. Snap into the car dash for hands free and media. Nightstand for an alarm clock. All one device, no cloud.
