OK totally fine, but if the argument (yours or his) is that this hardened some so far that they ceased being liberal democrats (it took me two readings to see that lowercase "d"), imho the fault can't lie with hypocrite/cynical Dems as "we will abandon democracy now" isn't a foreseeable response.

I watched all those hearings, mainly through some smoke that had filled the room from somewhere. Bork had some pretty bizarre positions on fundamental aspects of our Constitution--he wasn't just a conservative (like Kennedy, for example). There was a feeding frenzy to be sure, but he was extreme.

How long before the uila starts showing up in Texas bio textbooks?

Bork thought (1) the First Amendment should only protect political speech, not art or culture or speech about it, and (2) feminism and naughty stuff were destroying America. So, yeah.

The adamant elite refusal to call bullshit is a big part of How We Got Here.
The prevailing cultural attitude for years is you must not, under any circumstances, treat anything as bad faith. You are obligated to find some reasonable idea and engage with that, even if you distort to get there.
The American press and public really need to figure out how to simply dismiss Trump's pretextual claims for authoritarian attacks and then resist the attack itself, not debate the claim. We have spent months asking "but is the Ivy League really antisemitic?" and now "but is DC really crime-ridden?"

Yes--I trust it's clear no shade was intended with the comparison. This is pretty clearly very useful stuff but will need oversight. Don't mind me, as I've spent part of my day watching Abbott and Costello.
