I’m not a big fan of Kenneth Branagh’s version, but I will credit it as the first of the movies to really capture that the novel is about how the creature is an anguished son abandoned by his father, and becomes extremely intelligent. Good to hear Del Toro gets that right too.

Also, if that’s going on he can’t afford to get Covid again or a bad case of the flu. There would be irony if his people’s cavalier attitude about not masking came with blowback.

It would be entirely par for the course for a man his age and lifestyle who has a bad diet and never exercises. And if he was in otherwise good health, getting stents wouldn’t be a big deal. But his ego would have to allow that he isn’t immortal.

Perhaps he’s lying low while pumping himself up with injections and supplements to make his lab work look better when he has to go see a doctor.

I’d be willing to buy that he has a heart concern that’s being hushed up for as long as possible before he needs a serious exam that would lead to stents and such.

I’m sure he’s having a lot of bad days and moments, and probably in a bad week. But honestly if he was really bad, the ship would be leaking and the rats would be jumping. Remember a lot of his lackeys are bozos and kids. They’d be wetting their pants.
