  1. The executive branch simply has no authority—under federal statute or the Constitution—to replace D.C.'s police chief or alter the force's policies. Yesterday's takeover of MPD is an utterly lawless violation of the Home Rule Act and the Constitution. It's not a close call. slate.com/news-and-pol...

In response to this unprecedented seizure of power, D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb filed a lawsuit Friday morning seeking to restrain Bondi’s takeover of the local police. His suit stands a very strong chance of success. No one doubts that the federal government has significant authority over the District, far more than it has over any state. And everyone agrees that President Donald Trump may temporarily compel D.C.’s police to provide “services” for “federal purposes.” But Congress has not given the president a sweeping power to commandeer the District’s police, replace its chief, or repeal its policies. Nor does the Constitution vest any such power in the president or his appointees. To the contrary, the Constitution assigns ultimate authority over D.C. to Congress. The Trump administration’s bid to blow past those limits is patently illegal.

  2. It's cruel shocking and completely unnecessary. Warnings should be given, well shelter should be given, but that is another hurdle. But chaos shock and awe is the only offered with cruelty being the point and victim blaming the game, and surely unchristian.

  3. Press needs to stop repeating govt euphemism of “clearing homeless camps.” I’ve witnessed it in other cities: massive destruction of personal property. Not just bedrolls & tents; family photos, Bibles, meds. Times I’ve seen it people weren’t even given option to move their things.

  4. While I have plenty of beef with other stuff Newsom has done, this is exactly what we need right now

Newsom: "He doesn't play by a different set of rules. He doesn't believe in the rules. As a consequence, we need to disabuse ourselves of the way things have been done. It's not enough to just hold hands, have a candlelight vigil, talk about way the world should be...we have got to meet fire w/fire"

  5. Newsom: He is a failed president. Who else sends ICE at the same time while having a conversation like this? Someone who is weak, broken. His weakness is masquerading as a strength. The most unpopular president in modern history.

  6. Just when I thought I couldn't loathe Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) any more, I watch HBO's "Surviving Ohio State" and realize I was wrong. What a despicable person, laughing off the molestation of young men in his care.

  7. I wonder if Pam Bondi knows that laws regarding detention and prosecution of alleged criminals are different than they are for immigration?

You'd THINK as a long time AG she'd know that, but maybe she's forgotten.

  8. The President cannot commandeer any local law enforcement. The President does not run the Smithsonian. The monthly BLS jobs report is required by law. Release the Epstein files.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
