  1. The latter point is the key to all Trump accusations - he judges everything and everyone not based upon facts, but upon whether he likes you (you submit to him/please him).

The pretext of caring about crime will be used by Trump's thugs as rationale for committing crimes even greater than the ones they claim to fight – like kidnapping an 18-year-old boy – because crime, as they see it, is not about what you do, but who you are.

  2. I think paying established influencers would likely work okay, though I'd like to see more of a talent development pipeline rather than buying up big accounts. trying to keep it secret and attaching all kinds of conditions, though, not so smart, because it's going to leak and discredit them

  3. Long before any mass executions, the Nazis spent their first years in power making it almost impossible for Jews to live, work, and exist legally in the Third Reich. For targeted groups in the U.S., life in the U.S. is becoming almost as convoluted. You now get arrested for following the law.

It's disturbing the Trump admin is targeting immigrants lawfully attending their court hearings.

It's downright cruel to do it to unaccompanied juveniles.

This underscores the importance of orgs like The Door, Immigrant Arc & city-funded legal services.

  4. This thread is good and constructive, but dark. The debate is about whether 7 months into Trump's second term his consolidated hold on power is such that Dems can take control legally.

Agree — that's big part of my book, actually! Key is looking at the granular effects of changes, de facto or de jure. I find the evidence of changes in US outputs are insufficient to say we've crossed the line into a regime where power alternation is not reasonably attainable through legal means
