Does he seem happier/more comfortable? When my friend's elderly golden had to have both his eyes removed it was amazing how much energy he regained just from feeling more comfortable, it reminded me of post-amputation Hopper.

Tbh this seems like a reasonable complaint? Getting food poisoning from poor hygiene on holiday isn't funny.

Did you read the article? She points out issues with food hygiene and cross-contamination, which seems very reasonable. It's also reasonable to expect that a hotel that markets itself to English-speakers would have staff who can speak English. In an emergency you need to communicate with guests.
