To your point, homeschooling requires people with resources and education to do right by their kids. What happens when the best-resourced families are no longer invested in public education? The system fails. (Yes, I implicate private and charter schools in this as well.)
I wonder if the research also took into account that the kids who are homeschooled often have learning disabilities/difficulties and/or are neurodivergent - so the bell curve would look different.
