Watching Elizabeth Warren talk about Trump’s fascism as a distraction last night really broke something in me. Where I used to have this anger at the Democrats for folding to Trump I find myself numb. I don’t know if it’s going to last, but I don’t feel anything about their inaction anymore.
It can be hard to swallow for those attuned to the reality of what's going on/what it portends, but I don't think her messaging instincts are off-base. She's trying to break through to enough of Trump's fragile coalition that the fascism's just cruel theater to distract them from his robbing them.
That Trump instinctively uses fascist performance TO distract does not magically render the lived-in fascism an inconsequential distraction.
