Just because I declared more than once while reading Dune, "Why will no one rid me of this mopy whiny child!" Did not mean it is not a good book. Just maybe not the gem to drop on a young person when good modern books abound.
Or re-read the book yourself. There are a few favorites that I re-read later in life and they just did not hold up. My favorite example is Dune. But there were others.
But in this case did not hold up was as a kid I wanted to be Paul, as an adult I don't understand how no one killed the whiny one.
