Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve on the Minnesota shooting: "The sad thing is we can't sit here and tell them that help is on the way. Because we're not going to do a damn thing about it."

  1. People need to eliminate the word "we" from public life and replace it with the word "Republicans." There is no we. There never was. There is only good v. evil.

  2. Queue the right wing talking points. " Now is not the time to politicize this " etc. The right only cares about corporate profits and billionaires. They do not care about citizens.

Their only goal is to get past tragic moments. Without doing a damn thing.

  3. Well said

I’m personally at the point where I can’t even feign concern anymore. There is such a thing as compassion fatigue, and it’s especially defeating when the same thing keeps happening, we know what will help address the problem, yet we refuse to do it

    And it’ll never stop

  4. If the shooter was a person of color - (Look I do not know if people say that or not anymore; and it this point it does not matter)

If it WAS a brown/black person there would be magat outrage like we have not seen...Would give them an excuse to continue the purge...

  5. Exactly. We’ve reached a point where children can’t even rely on adults in power to protect them from mass shootings. Thoughts and prayers aren’t enough—legislators must take real action to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines before the next tragedy.

  6. I’m going to pick my kids up from school in 20 minutes. Every day around this time my anxiety flares up. It’s Schrƶdinger’s School… there have been no phone calls so I assume everything’s ok, but then I remember I’m in the USA and the fear creeps in. I’ll breathe again when I see them, 19 minutes…

  7. She's not wrong but nothing will change because we've decided that the occasional murder of students/teachers is alright - all in the name of the 2nd A.

  8. Only one of many sad things, eg: could have been reduced to almost never decades ago but for greedy republicans republicans valuing money and careers over lives weak cowardly people thinking guns make anyone safer weak cowardly republicans salivating to kill people thinking it won't affect them

  9. Reece is correct. We sacrifice children to gun violence every year then offer thoughts & prayers as Colt,Ruger,Smith&Wesson, etc. continue to manufacture&pay gun lobbyists to bribe Congress with blood money. The blood is the blood of our children & Congress gleefully wraps themselves in stained money.

  11. Maybe we’ll raise the purchasing age and then lower it. Maybe we’ll do a mural and then paint over it. Maybe we’ll think and pray, then unthink and unpray. And maybe we’ll do all this somewhere else next week.

  12. So what is the help?? There is no way to reduce the number of firearms in the U.S. Maybe do not interview a 10 yr old that was despicable. So what are the serious options for help?? Not sure I’ll see them from a WNBA player…

  13. We women have begged our legislators for decades to protect the children but instead, they send prayers. Prayers do not stop bullets.

  14. Another day, another shooting. Children dead and injured. Why is there never enough white-hot burning rage about this? I don't want to hear Democrats telling us that their "hearts go out..." etc, etc, etc. I want to hear them screaming "ENOUGH OF THIS FUCKING SHIT!!!!" at the top of their lungs.

FUCK YOU AND YOUR FUCKING GUNS
    3
  15. Have I said how much I despise corporate media right now....or since Jan 20th. Anyway, when this happens, Repbs/GOP should have to stand up and say these words...on air "We value AR15s and guns over human life. Sorry 'bout your luck, but we will never care about your children, just NRA and $$$$$$$."

    0
  16. Not us. Not Americans. Just Republicans. Republicans won’t do a damn thing about it. Republicans are solely responsible for the gun violence Republicans are solely responsible for the slaughter of children

  17. ...and that, is the BRUTAL truth of it all. Performative politics is not going to fix this issue. We need ACTION.

    0
  18. Everyone powerful person repeating the same thing, ā€œno one is going to do anything about itā€. Make a call to action! Suggest what people can do, help organize a protest, tell the camera you’re calling directly on our legislatures to come back in session and pass meaningful gun control today.

  19. Nothing like a ā€œcoachā€ of some insipid sport to repeat the obvious. Fuck her cynicism. Taking a knee during the Fucking national anthem that blares out of every idiotic contest would be a start.

I appreciate this, and I wish more people would publicly call out the cause. It's not a "we" that isn't doing a thing about it, because there is a big "we" that is trying; it's a "they" that is obstructing it. The GOP. (But also, there are some Dems that do too). We need to loosen that obstruction.

    0
  21. But we can do something about it if we want. Gun deregulation is kept going by ppl voting for the GOP on the basis of disinfo e.g. the lies that Dems want to take away all guns, even 4 hunting or self-defens. Most media are Right Wing now so most Americans hear lies

  23. Another sad thing is that they’re still identifying the shooter as a male or him/he. Maybe that contributed to the anger this person felt. I’m not glorifying a criminal nor the act but language matters. The shooting isn’t about gender. It’s about mental illness and the availability of guns.

    0
  24. We sacrifice our children just so we have the right to own guns. So we can shoot each other in a fender bender. So we can have them stolen and used in crime. It’s our right and these children are paying for it with their lives.

  25. ā€œThe number of guns appears to be directly related to the number of gun deaths in America...

For every 100 Americans, the US has 120 guns...

There are many extenuating circumstances that lead to gun deaths in the US.

Let’s start with the easy one: guns."

    www.vox.com/policy-and-p...

    #Guns #News

    Text and chart.
Text: The US leads the developed world in gun deaths, with about 12 gun-related deaths per 100,000 people... Not coincidentally, the country also has a lot more guns. For every 100 Americans, the US has 120 guns.
The US has more guns than its peers.
It also has more gun violence.
Chart: The vertical axis is "Gun-related deaths per 100,000 people". the horizontal axis is "Guns per 100 people". The chart shows a whole bunch of nations on the bottom left of the chart (low number of guns and gun-related deaths) and one nation, the USA, way up on the top right of the chart (high number of guns and gun-related deaths).

  26. The only thing PEDOfuhrer did was put the flag at half-staff, that's it! ZERO policy of removing any guns of mass destruction, bcuz PEDO & Congress don't care. NRA is THEIR favorite donors. 🤬🤷

Flags around Iowa will be at half-staff until sunset on Aug. 31.

FUK PEDOfuhrer & his murdering regime!

  27. Correct it has become normal in this America as bad as that sounds and people keep voting for the same people who shoot down every firearm control bill thinking this will fix itself your wrong America will be burying children forever if they don't act to stop this

    0
  28. "WE" are not the ones doing nothing about this. We have begged for years. It is the Republican party that has prevented gun law reform for years.

    0
  29. Anybody notice "Minnesota mass shooting", is not 'trending' on Bluesky?

Why not? Very curious. Are we so used to it, it's not news anymore? Or is the site itself, hosting users unconcerned about this issue?

Mangione shooting was all over this site. Why not children at Church in Minnesota?

  30. Vote out every single republican. Support CA redistricting. Republicans with any decency, ethics or soul have left the party. What remains is morally bankrupt & must be exterminated like cockroaches.

    0
  31. And don’t tell them to pray because they were praying when they got attacked with guns.

    0
  32. We need to reframe the debate and say that those who won’t vote for reasonable gun control are voting FOR the continuation of mass murders of our children.

So very true, if these so called Republicans care so much about life, they have taken free choice away from women, Medicaid and Snap benefits away from some mothers and children, Trump tax bill taking funding from mental health, but offer thoughts and prayers instead of gun legislation

  34. Governor Greg Abbott say Democrats are to blame for Texas' crumbling economy, high crime, and crumbling schools. But Texas' governor, attorney general, House majority, Senate majority, and ENTIRE state Supreme Court is Republican. So...? šŸ¤” he's definitely Delusional and needs to STFU

  36. How terribly sad to realize something as virtually useless as gun possession should be more important than life of a child and the life trama for horrified classmates.

    1
  37. As a country we’ve made a conscious choice to live this way. Most of us don’t like it. We’ve made the decision at the ballot box. Until we hold our reps accountable in addressing gun violence, laws & ownership this is America. A majority demands change. Yet we reelect those who disregard our voices.

That’s right! Republicans are going to say democrats are sick because talking about solutions fresh from this tragedy AGAIN is politicize the death of kids. Republicans will make Dems feel guilty so they would tiptoe around the subject until everybody forgets. It’s a SICK cycle.

    0
  42. Why aren't there metal detectors at every entrance to any educational institution, every daycare etc? These are our children, our future. Why hasn't this happened yet?

  44. @lme11.bsky.social

This is what I've been saying for years....over and over and over and over and over .....again.....everyone has their scripts ready when tragedy happens. They whip out their crumpled up papers and start with either T & P or we need regulation. Then go about as if nothing happened, til next time.

    0
  45. Unfortunately, sadly, she is correct...we are not going to do a damn thing about it. It boggles the mind.

If only we had a functioning GOP congress, except to follow orders, GOP aren't helping People. GOP cost massive job losses #Again. Trump did this before when he ignored Covid, and destroyed the US economy, businesses, as GOP always do.

  63. Agreed. If this country couldn’t rally and force our legislators feet to the fire on gun control after Sandy Hook, it will never happen. Our leaders would rather stay in office than see that not one single person again dies from gun violence
