Anecdotally, it does seem like quite a few kids think the phone bans are a good thing, too:
I'm a high school teacher, and my school just banned cellphones in the classroom. Even the students are happy about it.
This was how teachers and students alike were relieved that phones were banned and are now out of the classroom. The only pushback they got were some moans from seniors.

Seems most educators are in favor of banning smartphones in school:
"A 2024 National Education Association (NEA) poll found that 90 percent of teachers support prohibiting student cellphone use during instructional hours. Seventy-five percent favor extending restrictions to the entire school day."
