Even if it’s just like — interpersonal world. Siblings, friends, parents, details of their relationships etc. I feel like building personality intricacies needs a lil world building - something in the world has to have shaped them at least a little, you know? (Soz for the ramble lol)

I personally find that the characters often come alone with a genre-vibe. I enjoy building off of them, sometimes I’ll have a specific scene or setting in mind before/upon their creation, but I feel I almost NEVER have a character with a fully blank bg/world. They always have something, I feel.
