That was under UK accounting rules. Nationalisation has occurred there quite a bit after WW2. I don't know how that would be accounted for in the US, since I don't think nationalisation has ever happened here.

During the 2008 crash RBS nearly went under, the UK government bought them for a song. Their debts were added to the UK national debt though.

I know it's only 10%, but if the federal government becomes the largest shareholder, then Intel's debts may become our debt; I don't know.

I know that in the UK when the government takes over a company the debts of that company become part of the national debt. Probably the same in the US.

He hates wind farms, ever since he built his golf course in Scotland near Aberdeen. When the course was finished, the UK government built a large offshore wind farm around there.
He hated that wind farm spoiling the view, you can barely see it.
