My friend who grew up in Turkey in the 70s & 80s recalls paramilitaries with semi-automatic weapons occupying her elementary school classroom, then demanding the 8yos compose praise poems to the dictator & disclose their parents' political affiliations.
Trump wouldn't hesitate to do the same.

I understand why people believe Trump’s invasion of Washington DC is The Event but I think it’s more helpful to understand it as dialing up the heat on the boiling frog. Trump did this in LA. He’ll do it in D.C. with more boldness. And then he’ll do it again. Fascist takeover is never one event.

This should go without saying, but the best thing for Canada to do as the United States quickly spirals into fascism and corrupt autocracy, isn’t to try to seem more like the United States.
It’s to quickly double down on being even MORE Canadian.
That’s the big advantage, the big opportunity.
