I always pronounced cicada as sih-kah-dah. When I moved to Texas, people rudely told me it’s pronounced cikayda. I knew I was pronouncing it the way I learned it. Then I realized I wasn’t saying sih. I was saying a German z. I looked up the word. I had learned the German word, Zicade. 🙂
