I have ridden bicycles plenty. Won a CB radio* as the third-place prize in a bike-a-thon when I was a kid. Used to ride the long way around to my girlfriend's place when I was a teen, before a bridge was built.
I was aiming at a very narrow point.

Because bicyclists have, in my experience, a generally idiosyncratic yet pervasive notion of "freedom," which includes assuming that they are entitled to pedestrians.
