  1. Rivas Velásquez's family reportedly got a call from someone else detained at the facility informing them that he had died.

DHS says he's alive and was simply taken to the hospital after fainting, but his family hasn't spoken to him.

Now they're begging for proof of life.

    What a nightmare.

Luis Fríos’ sister and girlfriend demanded that they be provided with “proof of life.”

Several Venezuelan news outlets are reporting the death of Luis Manuel Rivas Velásquez, known online as Luis Frío, on Aug. 5 at the Everglades detention camp.

If true, his death would be the first (that we know of) at the facility.

  2. As part of the effort to win over communities, GEO Group likes to highlight how much money it gives out locally in scholarships.

But that scholarship money often looks meager compared to what GEO gives out to elected officials in those communities.

Screenshot of the GEO Group website page for the Montgomery Processing Center, located at 806 Hilbig St, Conroe, TX 77301. The facility has a capacity of 1,314 and holds detainees on behalf of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The page highlights $11,000 in student scholarships and includes contact information (phone: 936-521-4900, fax: 936-521-4910). Aerial and exterior photos of the facility are shown. A paragraph describes the services provided at the facility, including medical care, legal and family visitation, library access, religious services, meals, and healthcare staffing. The facility is accredited by the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.Chart titled “GEO Group PAC Donations: Montgomery County, TX” listing political contributions to local officials. The largest recipient is Frmr. Judge Craig Doyal with $16,500, followed by Sheriff Rand Henderson ($11,500), Frmr. Commissioner James Noack ($7,000), and others. Contributions range from $750 to $16,500, with a total of $61,850 in donations. At the bottom, the source is listed as “FEC.gov – GEO Group PAC disbursements.” The chart is set against a blue background.

  3. Another CoreCivic hearing this week, where the private prison company asked the judge to dismiss three counts that the city of Leavenworth has levied against the company. A rally ahead of time focused on immigration issues. kansasreflector.com/2025/08/06/c...

  4. The lawsuit accuses ICE of unlawfully deporting three U.S. citizen kids, including a four-year-old with stage-four kidney cancer, alongside their noncitizen parents in April—without due process, parental consent, or access to legal counsel.

  5. GEO Group in particular has donated to a number of sheriffs, mayors, and county commissioners in Texas over the years.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, several of the local officials who have accepted prison money have faced serious allegations of corruption on other matters.

Infographic titled “Private Prison Donations Are Bigger (and Smaller) in Texas.” It highlights political donations from private prison companies in Texas. Key points include:

Since 2021, Texas politicians have received over $217,000 from private prison PACs like GEO Group, CoreCivic, and Management & Training Corporation.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo) has taken over $200,000 from private prison interests since 2005 — more than any other member of Congress.

GEO Group donates at every level of Texas politics, from the governor to local officials.

At least eight Texas sheriffs have accepted private prison PAC donations, giving them influence over contracts and facility use.

  6. This is important. Last month, FT reporting on a man who was moved a DOZEN TIMES.

Worth mentioning: GEO Group founder and executive chairman George Zoley said on yesterday's earnings call that subsidiary GEO Transport is now the largest provider of ground and air transport for ICE.

Bar chart titled "Number of domestic-leg ICE flights" showing monthly totals from 2020 through mid-2025. Most bars are grey, representing earlier months, with a dotted line marking the "Biden average" around 350–400 flights per month. In 2025, bars turn light blue and rise sharply, peaking at 727 flights in July. Source: Tom Cartwright.
