The gyroscopic effect from the wheels alone is not enough to keep you upright for more than a few seconds. This can easily be demonstrated on a bike without steering.

Gyroscopic stabilty for bikes has been disproven. If you lock the steering of a bike, it will fall over despite the gyroscopic effect of the wheels. Researchers also made a bike that had additional counter-rotating wheels to cancel out all gyroscopic forces and it was still stable.
