- Final clause states "there is an ethical responsibility towards doing so," which makes it more of a modifier on the putative use mentioned in (2). If they wanted to suggest a prescriptive ethical mandate, the simpler phrase "to do so" would be simpler and unambiguous.

I got there based on:
- The overall context of the section, i.e. "be thoughtful about how and why you use AI"
- The actual sentence clearly presupposes a potential use of GenAI by the reader, "your usage of Gen-AI based tools"

I read that as "if you're going to use AI, it's your ethical responsibility to use it for good," but you'd think a University could generate a more clearly written sentence.
