For years I had a DREAM that almost all power wiring in homes could be 48V DC. PoE if needed, but just plain 48V could run under carpets and behind wallpaper using film cable. Tap into it anywhere with insulation displacement. Completely safe. Plenty power for LEDs and small gadgets.

Ubiquiti was founded by an Apple alumnus. Recent Ubiquiti packaging ("unboxing experience") has a very high-end Apple-ish feel to it. Maybe coincidence; I was a UniFi adopter a long time ago, and things weren't as pretty back then.
