I am so sick of people pretending poor red states are the victims of outside forces. WVa has consistently voted against their own interests because they get seduced by reactionary fantasies.
Not gonna wade into the cultural debate, but West Virginia’s last two governors have been a coal baron and a lobbyist who successfully petitioned the state legislature to gut opioid harm reduction programs. Both won over 60% of the statewide vote.
