I’m staring at the sentence about using “generative AI to produce a historical image.”

What does the word “historical” mean in this sentence? Vibes?

  1. @historians.org what on earth?? Bibliography creating is not reliable, historical images can’t be generated de novo, use of ChatGPT should ALWAYS be cited. Students need to read to understand nuance not have AI summarize for them. This chart is virtually useless. I’m so disappointed.

  4. Can be paired with a story to get likes from your aunt on Facebook. It's like all the fake images of the Abernathy brothers doing the rounds where they're cutesy smiling little kids, which are so much less cool than the real photos of them

  5. So, I am as anti-AI as the next rational person, and I totally get your point. But from a purely linguistic point of view, surely it's as cromulent as calling a genre "historical fiction"?

  6. I started reading the link and my headache nearly instantly got worse and I gave up. I was already so incredibly disappointed at how many scholars that I know from past work are good at actual scholarship, are using AI to do things like create images for presentations (plus the images are tacky).
