This is a fancy way of saying what Walmart said on their earnings call this morning.

IIF: “.. While domestic firms initially absorbed much of the tariff impact through margins and pre-policy inventories, that cushion seems to be now gone. As Q3 unfolds, final goods are expected to be increasingly priced at the new, tariff-inclusive cost base .. shifting .. toward final consumers.”

  1. I would like to know what he has done with the $billions he says he has taken in in tariffs already. Where is that money going? Not lowering our deficit. Is it going into his damn pocket? Where is the money?

  4. it should be obvious that whatever markup an importer uses, when he puts cost of goods in the spreadsheet the price plus the tariffs is what goes in that cell. what difference would there be between a $90 product with a $10 tariff and a $10 product with a $90 tariff? both are cost=$100.

  5. Can't wait for Trump to start threatening them if they refuse to lower prices.

It's a "Predator vs Aliens" scenario for us, but it should be as entertaining/terrifying as watching two Kaiju fight.

  9. Walmart has been raising their prices for months. Eggs holding at $4, butter $ 1 to 2, hot dogs (20 pk) $3, Heavy cream $2, to name a few. Sugar free products like G. Hughes at least $2. It's worse at other stores.

  10. Walmart shopper here: Ground beef $9/pound compared to about $5.50/lb a few months ago. Coffee: $8/lb. compared to about $6/lb (just weeks ago). Avocados: 90 cents each now compare to 50 cents each earlier this year. Chicken, milk, eggs, butter all up! Trump: "I did that."
