Issue here was the schools bathroom, not the bookstores bathroom.
In the long term clusters of one-person unisex bathrooms instead of two multi-seat one sex bathrooms is the solution. In schools, with badge-swipe doors, it would also help reduce vandalism by identifying who has used it.

People and institutions that have copies of the original studies should make sure to preserve them and make them available to others. Lets make sure that the old versions remain available, and on websites outside of the United States.

I am old enough to have gone to school back when they WERE displayed in schools where I lived. None of my contemporaries from those days is religious or goes to any church.
