We asked museum visitors outside the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C., to share their reactions to the president’s remarks.

History museums preserve our achievements, but perhaps even more importantly our errors, so that we may be able to learn from them and, hopefully, avoid repeating them. Despots need to destroy those lessons precisely because their intent is to take us down those wrong roads again.
