No doubt there are minor errors here and there. Obviously that doesn’t apply in this case. The Equality Act affects all areas of public life, so this clarification should go a long way towards undoing the damage we’ve seen over the last 10-15 years.

If a service is described as being single-sex, then members of the opposite sex can be lawfully excluded. It’s very clear if you read para. 264. Failing to comply could result in sex discrimination claims, as women would very likely be unwilling to use mixed-sex facilities.
