If I can provide anything to anyone we are just about out of gas and food. I am not sure what to do. Panic attacks pretty much constantly.

Once youβve listened to a 10 year old cry as they face the impossible double bind of being happy and trans or being alive and in the closet, all before theyβve even learned algebra, then you see that anything short of radical and absolute trans rights is genocide

So yes, I agree, there are probably more trans adults not being reported here, for multiple possible reasons (including one I didn't mention: death by suicide before they were able to come out publically & take a survey)
-
While those could be true, IMHO I think the far more likely hypothesis to explain the difference would be that the rate of occurence of trans people is relatively constant in humans, but the current younger generation (in the US at least) is better at realizing they're trans & being open about it
-
The report only claims to measure those who voluntarily identify as transgender in the surveys they are sourcing
So there very well could be trans people who either A) were still questioning & put "not sure" at the time, which was grouped with "no"; or B) did not feel comfortable disclosing
-
Other highlights:
"Three-quarters of people aged 13 and older who identify as transgender are under 35"
"One quarter of individuals who identify as transgender are between 13 and 17"
"Transgender men, transgender women, & nonbinary transgender people each account for one-third of [trans] adults"
this analysis, the largest of its kind, released today.
the part that stood out: "among U.S. adults, 0.8% (over 2.1 million people) identify as trans. among youth aged 13 to 17 in the U.S., 3.3% (about 724,000 youth) identify as trans.
our future quite literally depends protecting trans youth π©΅π©·

every time we go out into the world there is the possibly we'll be seen by a kid who knows they're trans but is scared to come out. they need to know they're not alone. this is why visibility matters.
there are so much more of us than we think. the numbers held steady across all 50 states, and all ethnicities.
more trans kids feel safer to come out than ever before.
we cannot and we will not fucking concede on having their chance at a happy, fulfilling future taken from them.
it's that simple.
