It seems a little to me like the Dems who are over performing have made a brand out or doing specific things for their districts and those that underperform are famous for more national level engagement.

I don’t think the issues were ever that simple unfortunately. Voters don’t actually care that much about age. But age can become a huge liability when things aren’t going well. It can become an excuse for not voting for someone whose policies you have issues with and makes it hard to fight back
