I've seen people say things like "our troops weren't designed to be used on US!!!" and look, I totally understand, I agree in some ways, but I really, really hope that if you feel that way you spend time thinking about the fact that there's no such thing as a weapon that can't be pointed at you.

i saw someone else point out that if you donāt have wars abroad, thereās no remaining targets for your military except at homeā¦

They intentionally don't teach people about The Battle of Blair Mountain and how Labor lost because The US Military was ordered to break it.
-
We already have troops designed to be used on the US. They are, in fact, used all the time. They're militarized police departments strutting around in body armor cozplaying as the military.
-
They were made to rape and murder their way around the world. Which they have done for over 100 years.

... someone's boomerang, etc.
Seriously though. The fact that there is no "final enemy" for these freaks (no offense to Freaks, or Freaked, the classic Alex Winter movie) hasn't broken through for most people. The concept of fascism does not abide peace.

Also this is what the second amendment was designed to protect us from. So the idea that this could happen has been here from the beginning.

All Booms have the potential to be Boomerangs.

If you take this division a little further you begin to question why is there a population against whom it is actually ok to use your weapons on.
Imperialism is a hell of a drug.
-
We have formed a LOT of weapons.
And many people (not all, obv) have nodded enthusiastically because those weapons were pointed at populations that were not them, which they felt needed to be kept in order.
Sometimes those populations were domestic. Sometimes foreign.

Also cops have been taking military surplus for around 50 years now

agreed, but I also remember Commander Adama from Battlestar Galactica: "There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people."

The history of military use against US persons is vast. They were designed to be used. Targets are not specific.

The founders warned us about standing armies.

Yeah, they were trained to intimidate and harass civilians in other countries. Yeah, that's not really better.

From Wounded Knee to Kent State thereās plenty of evidence that the US military will act lethally against anyone who gets in their way, funny how people donāt count those situations
-
I think it's worth saying "military troops aren't trained in law enforcement." That's true in Baghdad just as it is in DC.
Soldiering isn't law enforcement. Both professions can involve armaments, but that's about it.

the reality is they can be used anywhere, anytime, aimed at any target and the laws restraining them are naught more than a "Gentleman's agreement". We can very easily experience what the folks in Gaza are experiencing right now and nobody will intervene.

every other country in the world, wincing : 'oh you don't have a major historical incident where the army was famously unleashed on the peasants by idiot generals. sorry that you have one now?'

I'm listening to a public radio tale about bald eagles. They are aggressive and territorial to the point that they had earlier United States leaders choosing them as our fight, if necessary, to the death national emblem. Web cam now shows the world they can disarm and 2 males can nest with a femaleš¦
