Sure, but it doesn't shine for weeks on end which is a problem
You are right but I hope the ability to store solar power will improve as we continue to advance solar energy cause spending all that time and money on something that is dangerous and might be obsolete seems backward thinking.

Battery tech is continually improving. That said, you gotta schlepp all that stuff to the moon & set it up & hope it works in the hard vacuum & temperature extremes of space. Meanwhile people have been generating electricity in space with nuclear sources for around 5 decades.
