Sometimes, certain people get the idea of "humans are generally good" and when that isn't the case, they have to find a way to explain that away, by, for example, saying that they aren't human instead of accepting that humans simply aren't what they are made out to be.

It requires being able to accept that huge swathes of people, who are not that different from you on a biological/psychological basis suck ass.
I think it may actually sometimes stem having too much faith/a too positive outlook on humanity.

I think that sometimes dehumanization of people who did some heinous thing actually stems from people not wanting to believe that a person/human could do "thing" instead of accepting that being a person/human does not actually mean there is something inherently good/moral about you.

Sometimes you come across the most sfw looking artwork and then find that the creator has tagged it as adult content and you find out that this is actually incredibly niche kink art and I find that pretty funny.
