Depressingly, this boils down to a question of power. Cis people have power: they don’t have to care what trans people think of them. Trans people don’t have power, and we can be collectively punished if even one of us steps out of line. This is how the world works, and it is cruel beyond words.
That being said, I wonder if progressive cis people ever actually notice how frequently they casually threaten trans people with the prospect of collective punishment? Like, you folks do that a lot and I don’t think you realise you’re doing it

Can you say more about this? There are many of us who genuinely care about the lives of trans people and their rights. It would be helpful to understand how we might be casually threatening the same group of people we’re trying to protect.
