The threat works because we are vulnerable. Because the current environment being what it is, we have no idea what might make cis people suddenly turn on us. Maybe we talk back at you the wrong way and you’ll deny us bathroom access? We don’t know, so we have to walk on eggshells to please you.
He’s taking advantage of this. Cis progressives do it all the time. They warn us to keep quiet and do as they tell us to or else the big bad (the far right) will come and then you’ll regret it. It’s basically “do as your told or father will beat you when he gets home”. The threat is heard.
