Rightly or wrongly that's what people care about. If tightening up asylum means we can make an argument for increased economic migrants, which we desperately need, then that is something that will benefit all of us. The number one priority of the UK government is the people of the UK...

Maybe it not a good thing to have asylum seekers unable to work some will end up in the gig economy anyway where they can be exploited. So why not allow some to work then at least they are paying into the system. But years of neglect and deliberately creating a backlog is coming back to bite us.

With the problems that climate change proposes, the time of open boarders may be over. Look at Germany, the Merkel days are over. I'm not saying I agree with this, but a government has to reflect the majority opinion, otherwise they get voted out
