This is the growth problem in microcosm.
Everyone is trying to push the numbers to show faster growth than last decade.
Last decade was an anomaly. Two world wars meant the insane growth at the end of the century was actually recovery.
New wounds to encourage growth isn't healthy, it's self harm.
Demanding democrats go high when Republicans go low is what always happens.
If they go low, kick sand in their face then kick their teeth in, and ignore the so-called media referees at Bloomberg.
This is the one thing that keeps coming up in US shows as a plot point (paying medical bills), and as a person not in the USA it just makes things feel contrived.

Old people who are in the early stages of cognitive decline are actively targeted.
I personally know of a retired psychology professor who almost lost everything but for a kind neighbour stepping in.
