Unusual language here in the New York Times’ claim that the Trump administration is trying to “reshape institutions that it views as cathedrals of liberalism.” What is the definition of a “cathedral of liberalism” and what right does Trump have to “reshape” it?

The Trump administration has largely targeted elite private universities in recent parts as part of what it has depicted as a campaign to fight antisemitism and reshape institutions that it views as cathedrals of liberalism.

SCOTUS has proclaimed this president has the right to reshape everything. He’s the Pope in the cathedral of conservatism, building a standing army of incels prepping for the election inquisition. We don’t have the legal right to question what he’s f$cking up. Or something.
