As is my wont each week on #SundayMorning, here's "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" by Cecil Osborne from 1929. The subject of the view was Corporation Buildings at 119-141, Farringdon Road. Looking at the list from the London Street Directory from 1921 one can make out the shops. #CecilOsborne

Ah, excellent, Jan @janjonesauthor.bsky.social As you say, the portrait isn't one of Bryn's best but it is fascinating to see an unfinished piece like the "Interior": it gives one a lovely insight in to her working methods. Have a lovely week-end.

Good afternoon, Jan @janjonesauthor.bsky.social & thank you. Yes, it is a marvellous painting & one that I covet deeply! That view seems to epitomise an idyllic way to start any week-end. Here's a somewhat similar set-up for "Interior" which is on the reverse of Brynhild Parker's portrait of "Ivy"
Will never get tired of seeintg this on a Saturday morning.

Well, here we are again: another #SaturdayMorning has arrived so here's our "usual" start to the day & week-end. This is "Interior" by Brynhild Parker from the second Group exhibition at Alex. Reid & Lefevre galleries at 1a, King Street in Mayfair in 1930. #BrynhildParker #EastLondonGroup

Today would have been Walter Steggles' birthday as he was born on 15th August 1908. Very recently his oil painting of "Railway Siding" from 1930 turned up at auction from a house-clearance in Bridport: prior to that the painting was "lost", except for his preparatory sketch #botd #WalterSteggles

This is "Harbour, Lyme Regis" by John Cooper from 1934. Cooper was great friends with Richard Eurich, who had been commissioned to paint views of Lyme Regis in the early 1930s & Cooper & his wife, Phyllis Bray were inspired by his work to paint extensively in the area.

This is "Morston Marsh towards Blakeney" by Walter Steggles along with his tiny preparatory, watercolour sketch of the scene: barely 3.5ins x 2ins!! #WalterSteggles #Blakeney #Norfolk #EastLondonGroup

This is "Farm near Lewes" by Lilian Leahy which is undated but I believe that it dates from 1933/34. The actual location was Southerham Farm, south of Lewes, just off the A27. The large buildings on the horizon to the left were part of the Lewes Portland Cement Company Ltd. #LilianLeahy #Lewes

This is what I believe was the "Glass & Mirror Showroom" at Clark & Eaton in Glasshill Street, Blackfriars. It was painted by Archibald Hattemore c.1933/34. Arch was by then a flooring estimator & he'd gone there to measure up & became fascinated by what he saw, so he painted it! #ArchibaldHattemore

Ah yes, Jan, how true. There are roughly 80 pieces of ELG work in the National collection across a large selection of galleries & museums & a large proportion of those pieces were bought by wealthy philanthropists like Sir Edward Marsh & Sir Joseph Duveen, who donated them to the CAS.
