  1. Yes. Exactly. And if that was DRIVING public perception, it would be positive

The fact public perception is negative means the whitewashing is failing

Media paints him as a success. Public opinion holds him as a failure. That’s how it is

    Extrapolate from there

  2. …and the media helps

But if Fox/media DROVE things, he’d be a winner right now. The media paints him as a winner

The fact that he’s underwater means the public sees things the media doesn’t

  3. I disagree slightly(?) with this

I think the check was in the mail even before COVID, though the pandemic certainly helped

I think the fact is most people don’t want what he wants, and that’s crystal clear when he’s in charge

When he’s not, voters convince themselves otherwise…

  4. Quibble with my characterization of the numbers, and I absolutely agree they should be lower

The point still stands he is underwater with the public and that’s despite all the help Fox and the media at large give him

They affect public perception, they are not driving it

  5. This is fair to a great extent. Though I do wonder if it would have happened under another President

The optics of voting against those things were pretty bad at the time (not an excuse, just a fact), and if the President didn't want/support them, where would we be?

  6. I can see that Republicans run the media narrative, but Trump’s polling - personally and on almost every issue - is in the toilet

He’s only embraced - to a meager extent - when he’s out of office and the public can convince themselves of their fantasy version of him

    It’s happened both terms

  7. Wasn’t this both Trump’s and Harris’ message too?

For all the fancy analysis, Trump probably eked it out because he wasn’t in office. And Harris was

    The inverse of 2016

I don’t like it, but I’m not sure it’s more complicated than that for a significant chunk of voters

  8. It’s weird because it’s not his nature, but it’s an interesting compromise Trump’s made with the Defund the Police people

“I can’t disband them, but I will meet you halfway by disrespecting them”

  9. "If they didn't criticize this nonsense, they'd criticize some other nonsense" so let's try some GD offense. Let's get them running around sweating what words they shouldn't be using

Playing their rigged game is pure defeatism
