I dunno, when you start blaming OpenAI because unwell people did unwell people things, filing massive lawsuits, and waging ap press campaign, this seems the entirely predictable course correction.

You wanted guardrails to ensure mentally ill people can't encounter harmful output, now you got it.

  2. "Tao is one of the most prominent mathematicians and academics to publicly oppose the administration’s actions, calling them an “existential threat” to his field, and academic science, more broadly. He said public advocacy is a priority over his research, for now."

UCLA's Terence Tao called the Trump administration's actions an "existential threat" to academic research in the U.S.

The 'Mozart of Math' rarely speaks about politics. The wide-ranging cuts to science funding made him change that.

  3. When reading AI reasoning text (aka CoT), we (humans) form a narrative about the underlying computation process, which we take as a transparent explanation of model behavior. But what if our narratives are wrong? We measure that and find it usually is.

    Now on arXiv: arxiv.org/abs/2508.16599

  5. This WaPo piece about the Airbnb/DOGE guy who is now the head of design in government ignores that: *DOGE fired the actual talented design people in government, including Social Security! *IRS had a beautifully designed tax filing system that DOGE killed *USDS already did online passport renewals

The daily digital interactions its web designers are tasked with improving include paying a student loan, renewing a passport, planning trips to national monuments, managing social security payments and filing taxes.

  6. This only happens because of the leadership of Mayor Wu. There’s been no mayor in my lifetime more supportive of efforts to improve the built environment at the neighborhood scale for Boston residents than @wutrain.bsky.social

Boston’s MBTA plans to eliminate the only section of its rail service that’s currently shared with cars, the southern section of the E Line. The agency will build a dedicated, center-running transitway on Huntington Ave that’s also usable for the buses along the route.

Buses would also use the proposed new Green Line E branch transitway to bypass traffic between Heath Street and Brigham Circle.

  7. Here's a sign at a ferry terminal on Martha's Vineyard. When do you think this was posted?

Presumably after 9/11, but with the date to make clear the cause.
