Over on Threads some people are panicking about this and saying it’s shady. Here’s what actually happened: Judge Sooknanan was the judge for emergency assignments over the weekend, which is why she was dealing with it initially. There’s no formal assignment on the docket until today’s.
The case involving the children that the administration tried to deport over the weekend has been assigned to a Trump appointee. (The previous judge was basically on call for emergencies). Judge Kelly was the one who sentenced Enrique Tarrio to 22 years for seditious conspiracy.
