I mean, this stuff has a long history in the party. The Labour First faction – your John Spellars, Luke Akehursts, John Manns etc – has long been hostile to New Left and socially progressive causes, for having what they perceive as the whiff of communism about them.
Particularly weird for the Blue Labour types who claim to have left-wing economic views when you consider that there is a lot of evidence for people being absolutely fine with their black or gay neighbours and relatives and very little evidence for them being keen on left-wing economic policy.
